Ysgol Gynradd Carreg Hirfaen is a Welsh-medium school which is situated in the village of Cwmann on the outskirts of the town of Lampeter. The school was formed in January 2009, following the closure of nearby schools and, as a result, it serves a wide area.

At the Briefing stage workshop the stakeholders debated and agreed their aspirations for the project. The DQI Facilitator documented their consensus as to what the project should achieve in the form of a Briefing Record. This document contributed to the project design brief, and became a benchmark against which to evaluate the design at later DQI Stage workshops.

At the Mid Design stage workshop, stakeholders received a presentation of the design proposals. This session was planned to:
- Capture the specific design issues which still need further consideration
- Score the current design using the DQI assessment tool
- Allow comparison with stakeholder requirements and priorities put forward in the briefing session.

The enthusiasm of stakeholders present at the workshop demonstrated a very high level of support for the project, and a desire to be closely involved with the ongoing design development and the finished building. It was particularly notable that the new school and its facilities are seen as providing a major focal point for the local community, and will be widely used beyond the school curriculum.
